Rhwyfo MYC Rowing is a section of the Madog Yacht Club. We’re based in the harbour town of Porthmadog in North Wales and are affiliated to the Welsh Sea Rowing Association. We row Celtic Longboats, which are fixed seat boats with crews usually consisting of four rowers and a cox (with the occasional passenger).
Our fleet consists of four boats – Fleeting, Madog, Glaslyn and Ysbryd Eryri (more commonly referred to as 69). We get to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery Wales has to offer, and we’re often treated to views that you just can’t get from the land.
As a club, we compete in the northern and joint WSRA League, and we occassionaly head further south and take part in the southern league. We don’t just race in leagues though! We also take part in marathon races such as the Celtic Challenge (rowing from Arklow in Ireland to Aberystwyth), the Great River Race in London (22 miles along the river Themes), and take on some other pretty epic challenges too.
We’re a really sociable bunch both on and off the water. We have events on throughout the year and get to enjoy our own BBQ area in the summer. Our members also get full benefit of the Club House which includes showers, washing facilities and most importantly, a well stocked bar!
We take part and host a number of events throughout the year. You can see some of our more prominent upcoming events below. To see a full list of events across the year, head over to the events page.
