Easter Egg Hunt Down the Mines

The intrepid Blacky took us down the mines on Sunday 31st March for a daring Easter Egg Hunt.

Members of the MYC both Yachties, Rowers and various family members including furry friends all met up on a sunny day at Tanygrisiau. After a detailed safety briefing we headed up into the slate mines. The Easter bunny had already laid the eggs in the first cavern for us all to finds in the pitch dark (luckily Blacky had briefed the compulsory headtorches). A bit of paddling, scrambling and ladder climbing eventually got us back out into the sunlight, all with a much greater knowledge of how difficult life was for the Welsh Miners.

Possibly the most challenging part of the jaunt was the decent down the material rail track, a very steep narrow track bed back to the village. Certainly a few wobbly legs after that section).

A fabulous morning out on the hills, blessed with a sunny mild day and a wonderful lunch of soup at the clubhouse after.

Huge thanks to Blacky and Sarah for organising such a great day.
